    The city was always dark. The events were important because they were given instructions.

    Light is used a lot because they were describing how dark the place gets and how they need light

    Old is used because the city is very old everything too

    On Assignment Day, Doon was assigned a messenger, and he didn't want that job, so he crumbled the paper and threw it on the floor in anger. The mayor was disapointed in him and nearly punished him for his actions.

    The word "fire" was used a lot in chapter 8. The word fire was used a lot because Doon was trying to find how to make the fire last longer. He went to the library to find the book, but he knew more than the book

    The main conflict in the book, The City of Ember, was that their was not too much light which made the main character"s job, Doon complicated. His job was to be a messenger,where had to mail the messages, but on the other hand, he was lazy to walk and got mad when he got his job message.
